If you're tired of ordering the same Chinese takeout every night, you may be overlooking all the restaurant gems Newtown has to offer. Whether you’re looking for a great restaurant with a family atmosphere, or the best place in town to get pizza, Newtown has it all.
NHS students had mixed opinions on which restaurant in town serves up the best pizza. NHS junior Sophia Matsis said, “If you’re looking for a place to go for the best pizza, I would recommend going to Carminuccio’s.”
NHS junior Karly Gregorio agreed with Matsis regarding the tastiest pizza in town. “The place that sells the best pizza in town is definitely Carminuccio's,” Gregorio said.
Although others offered up Franco’s or Tina’s Pizza as their favorite pizza joint, the majority of NHS students agreed that Carminuccio's is the place to go when you have a pizza craving.
NHS junior Genti Limani talked about an Italian restaurant in town he calls his favorite for its unique atmosphere. “I like My Place a lot. In the spring you can sit outside, and it’s just really relaxing. Going there helps me recharge in a way. It definitely doesn’t have the best pizza, but it’s just a good place to be,” Limani shared.
Aside from the numerous pizza places and the restaurant My Place in town, a good place to go for better quality Italian cuisine is Sal e Pepe. It is a contemporary Italian bistro located on South Main Street famous in town for its fine dining atmosphere.
NHS senior Ashley Headen said, “Sal e Pepe is a great Italian bistro that you can go to with your family. It's one of the most upscale places in town and you can always get good quality food."
But Italian is not the only type of food that can be enjoyed in Newtown. A popular restaurant favorite amongst NHS students for Asian influenced cuisine is Toro. It’s welcoming atmosphere, and hibachi section upstairs makes it a perfect place to go with the family as well as friends.
“Toro is a really nice place in town to eat. I go there because I love Chinese food and sushi, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is very dark and calming,” Gregorio said.
Headen added on to why Toro is such a great place for dining, “You can experience a different culture and it offers entertainment while you eat. You can also get a wide variety of food and it has a good family atmosphere,” Headen said.
For a more casual dining experience place’s like the Blue Colony Diner or Five Guys Burgers and Fries are sure to please your stomach and offer up a good time. After football games or on Friday nights the diner is usually filled with hungry NHS students, looking to fill up their stomachs with delicious and not-so-nutritious food.
“I like going to the diner, the food is good and it’s a place where I can also go to hang out with my friends,” NHS junior Jacob Burden said.
NHS junior Zach Aumueller offered up his opinion on the classic burger joint, Five Guys. “They have great burgers and you feel better eating it than normal fast food because they tell you a lot about where all their products come from. It's pretty loud and fun to be in, you feel like a lot is going on. It's not a boring experience.”
So next time you are with your family, trying to figure out a good, local restaurant to go to for dinner, consider these options. With so many different restaurants to choose from, it can be hard narrowing it down to just one. Newtown offers such a variety of good quality restaurants that appeal to everyone’s appetite that it is possible to go out for a good meal from a different restaurant every night of the week.
