Lindsay Fuori, Co-Editor-in-Chief Dr. Joseph Erardi, the seven year superintendent of Southington schools, has officially been named Newtown’s next leader. The news was announced after a unanimous vote at a Board of Education meeting Friday, January 17th.

This April Erardi will replace Dr. John Reed who has served as interm since Janet Robinson resigned in May to become the leader of Stratford schools.

Erardi has spent his past fourteen years serving as superintendent of schools in Bolton, Watertown, and then Southington. Now he is ready to guide the five thousand students in the Newtown school system.

“I would really like to be a part of this community as they remain incredibly respectful to their past, connected immediately to their present, and to work with this town on their future,” Erardi told The Courant.

Board vice chair Laura Roche read a statement at the meeting stating Erardi was “highly regarded by the three schools in which he previously served.”

Board members conducted a site visit to Southington Friday, January 10th. In their meeting, the Board of Education described Erardi as a “caring, intelligent and collaborative person.”

In an email to his staff members, Erardi said there is, “not another job in the country that I would be interested in.”
