They’ve been labeled as everything from hip hop’s Bonnie and Clyde to American royalty. Collectively, they share 34 grammys, a net worth of close to a billion dollars, and an adorable baby girl, Blue Ivy. There’s no doubt about it, Jay Z and Beyonce are a power couple. It may not be too insane to say they are the power couple, better than the Obamas, Brangelina, or the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Though they have kept most of their romance out of the public eye, what few snippets we do see of their relationship continuously create a media storm. Something as simple as a trip to a grocery store becomes national news. They are worshipped in our pop culture obsessed society. Mitchell Roberts, a Newtown High School senior, went far enough to say "Beyoncé is a goddess." But what is it about this dynamic duo that makes them almost superhuman?
For some people, it is the fact that they keep their private life just that: private. This can be extremely difficult to do when you're a couple of such high importance, but they have done a fantastic job of controlling what is said and not said about them in the news. Compared to other celebrity couples, like Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, who made sure the intimate details of their wedding, including how much it cost, were on the front page of every tabloid, Beyoncé and Jay Z had an extremely intimate and tasteful ceremony.
"I really like how they keep some mystery about their relationship," NHS freshman Emily Dirga said. "It's pretty classy that they don't shove everything in your face." For some, it is just the fact the they are both such talented individuals. Separately, they would be media moguls, but together they are a media supernova. They combine the best of two totally different genres of music- Beyoncé is one of the greatest female pop singers of her generation, while Jay Z is the figurehead of the rap industry. The demographic that they appeal to is something not many other couples in the media can compete with. Beyoncé appeals to women, because she has managed to keep up an extremely successful career after getting married and having baby. She is the poster woman for female empowerment.
Jay Z, on the other hand, is one of the most financially successful entrepreneurs in the United States. He is a role model for anybody aspiring to be successful.
Basically, there is something everyone can appreciate in Beyoncé and Jay Z’s relationship. Very few people would say that they do not support their relationship, possibly making them the greatest power couple of all.
