Travis Scott released his studio album Astroworld on August 3rd, marking it as the first studio album since Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight back in 2016. This album boasts the same psychedelic sound that is prominent throughout all of his music.
Astroworld is Travis Scott’s third studio album of his career. Scott named his album based on Six Flags Astroworld, an amusement park in Houston, Texas that was demolished in 2005. The vacant space after the demolition has reportedly not been used since. Travis Scott commented on the album’s name and the meaning behind it.
“That’s what it’s going to sound like, like taking an amusement park away from kids. We want it back. We want the building back. That’s why I’m doing it. It took the fun out of the city.” Scott said.
Travis’s newest album poses as a “wake-up” album for many of Scott’s doubters. Scott’s psychedelic music style comes to play in this album with guest appearances throughout from a multitude of names in the rap industry. These names include Drake, Juice WRLD, Quavo, 21 Savage, and many more. These artists add their style and voice to the already beat driven rap of Scott to help the album feel unique within every song.
The album opens up with “Stargazing”, an energetic track that acts as an invitation to the whole album. Following this song is another standout with rap icon Drake titled “Sicko Mode”. The song begins with a Drake verse immediately switched up into a verse with Scott, transitioned flawlessly with a new beat. Other standout titles from the album include “Stop Trying To Be God”, “Yosemite”, and a fan-favorite by Scott titled “Butterfly Effect”.
With the shadowed performances of guest stars, Scott’s unpredictable and chilling beats, and an experience resembling a rollercoaster, Scott knocked it out of the park with Astroworld.
