Self-driving cars will eventually hit the roads sooner or later and it’s only natural to think that self-flying planes are next. The whole industry is pushing to make autonomous passenger aircrafts a reality. There is no real answer to when self-flying planes may become available to the public but many predict that they are coming sooner than expected.
Boeing, is one of the first companies to begin this process and show interest in the autonomous aviation game system. Is one of the biggest commercial airline companies. Boeing for the past couple of years have been staying out of the aviation world to focus on building their company and manufacturing bigger and better planes.
They are starting to use a system that contains no pilot. Supposedly, this may do good for the future of our world and our people. Many companies are looking to develop this system because it is supposed to be an easier, safer, and more futuristic plan for our future in the industry of cars and planes. The question arises is this really a safe idea?
Many people think that when self-flying planes become real they will be safe due to all the tests that companies will make them go through. Self-driving cars has already begun and has become a trend in the industry of automobiles. A lot of the objects we use today are being used for our convenience but that doesn’t make them safe.
“Most planes have autopilot for when they are in the air the only dangerous part about them is landing and due to the fact that it’s a serious thing I believe they won’t come into effect until the companies engineering them would have 100% assurance that they work. once that happens I would feel safe with that,” Nhs sophomore Michael Brown said.
Today, only about 26% of consumers say they would purchase a self-driving car, and the biggest preventing factor seems to be trust. Most people don't believe an autonomous car can keep them safe; never mind that nearly all car accidents are the result of human error. Imagine what the statistics would look like if all the companies did scientific test to prove to us that the planes are safe.
Many people have concluded that it is not always the easiest option that is the safest option for our citizens.
“ I would not feel safe in a self-flying plane because there is a high chance of the plane getting hijacked. And hijacking the plane will probably be easy due to all the hackers and internet savvy people in this world today,” Nhs sophomore Maggie Mcinerney said.
The thing about this new system with the airplanes is that it has many pros and cons.
“Boeing estimates that 637,000 pilots will be needed to fly commercial aircraft globally in the next two decades. The industry needs to find new ways to produce more cockpit crew as only 200,000 pilots have been trained since the start of the aviation industry,” A technical officer Mr. Eremenko said.
Due to the huge increase in population and huge increase of different ethnicities coming into our country it is concluded that many people will be traveling more often because the other part of their family is in different countries and many like to travel.
The biggest challenge may be convincing the public that these planes are safe. Human nature is being added to the list of things all companies will have to add in to see if there product/idea we actually sell. For that same reason you will mostly likely see cargo planes with this advanced technology first. But self-flying planes are soon to come.
