The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles faced off in Super Bowl LIX in Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans on February 9th, which the Eagles won. A rematch of the Super Bowl two years ago, the Chiefs tried to win their third-straight Super Bowl, while the Eagles tried to win their first Super Bowl since the 2017 season.

The Chiefs started out the season going 9-0, with their first loss of the season coming from the Bills. Their only other loss this season was in week 18 against the Denver Broncos, when the Chiefs sat all of their starters to avoid injury before the playoffs.

Eagles RB Saquon Barkley had an all-time rushing season, becoming the 9th running back to run for 2,000 yards in a season. This is his first season with the Eagles after playing the previous six seasons with the New York Giants. The Super Bowl this year was played on Barkley's 28th birthday.

The Eagles blew out the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC Championship to advance to the Super Bowl. The Eagles had the most points in a conference championship game ever, and their seven rushing touchdowns tied the most in a playoff game in NFL history with the 1940 Bears.

The Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship 32-29, their fourth straight playoff win against the Bills. Although many fans had the perception that the officiating was the reason the Chiefs won, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had a different opinion.

“Everything balances out. You got a human element there with the officials. These guys are trying to do the best job that they possibly can out there. They take a lot of heat one way or the other,” Reid said.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce was working to prepare for the Super Bowl, while understanding that the Eagles will be motivated.

"We know they're gonna have a sour taste in their mouth from the last time we played them in the Super Bowl. That being said, we gotta go to work. We gotta go to work and make sure we're ready to handle it,” Kelce said.

Travis Kelce is in his 12th year playing for the Chiefs, having 1,004 catches and 80 touchdowns going into the Super Bowl. The nine-time pro bowler is also known for dating Taylor Swift.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has played with Kelce his entire career. Mahomes is a two-time MVP and a three-time Super Bowl MVP. Mahomes also understood the effort it would take to win in the Super Bowl.

"This is a great football team we're playing. They're great on offense. They're great on defense and special teams. We played them in a close Super Bowl a couple of years ago, but they've added players and have got even better. It'll take our best football to win,” Mahomes said.

Some football fans believed the Chiefs wouldn’t be able to stop the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

“Eagles, because of their run game and because of the receiving core that they have, I feel like the Chiefs can’t worry about the run and the pass at the same time because their defense isn’t strong,” NHS freshman Bobby DeNicola said.

Other football fans believed the game would depend on if the Chiefs defense plays well against the run.

“The Chiefs will win the Super Bowl if they can limit Saquon Barkley, if not Eagles will win,” said NHS freshman Blaise Mindenhall.

While many Super Bowl fans were focused on the football leading up to the game, others put their attention towards the halftime show, which featured a performance from rapper Kendrick Lamar.

“I am very excited to watch the halftime show, Kendrick is a very good artist and I have high hopes for his performance, plus I don’t even watch the football,” NHS freshman Maggie Murphy said.

The Super Bowl this year brought excitement to football fans, with the Eagles winning 40-22. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts won the Super Bowl MVP, throwing for two touchdowns and 221 passing yards in the blowout win.
