As summer approaches, many students at Newtown High School are awaiting their summer vacation trips. From touring historical sites in Europe to tanning at a beach in Florida, NHS students reveal their out-of-state plans for the summer.
“Me and my family are going to Macedonia for the entire month of July. I am very excited to go because I have been since I was really little. Unfortunately, I am going to miss a lot of time to hang out with my friends, but it is worth it for Macedonia. My family is originally from there, so it will be interesting to revisit you know,” NHS junior Ilir Kaliki said.
Macedonia, located in southeastern Europe, is known for its beautiful landscape, along with its ancient towns. Visitors can explore these towns and explore their cultural heritage.
“I am going back to Croatia and I am so hyped. The beaches there are absolutely incredible, I mean I have been to Florida, the Carolinas, places like that, but the beaches do not compare to Croatia. It’s really a place everyone should visit, and I can’t wait to go back this summer,” NHS junior Cole Sgagliardich said.
Croatia, also located in Europe, is found on the Adriatic Sea. Travelers can immerse themselves in its stunning beaches and unique variety of foods.
“This summer me and my Dad are going on a road trip all across the Midwest and the East Coast. We are going to see colleges in places like Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, and also visit my family in Virginia. It’s also going to be good to see a bunch of different colleges early on so I can get a feel for where I wanna go,” NHS sophomore James Damico said.
Summer can also be a good time to visit colleges and see family. Being able to visit several campuses allows students to understand the different environments and see which colleges fit them best.
“I am going to Arizona with my family for a week. My brother, Ben is back from college, and he is coming on the trip too and that always makes vacations more fun. I think we are going to the Grand Canyon as well, which is a lot of fun by itself,” NHS sophomore Thomas Selner said.
The Grand Canyon is a classic vacation spot, and draws many visitors each year. Beyond the Grand Canyon, Arizona still offers a diverse landscape from desert plains to pine-covered mountains.
“I am going to Florida this summer for a week. I am staying at a Marriott Resort in West Palm that me and my family go to every year. It is really nice, I mean it has like 4 pools, a beach on the resort, and basketball courts so me and my brother can hoop. It is always an enjoyable spot,” NHS junior Jeremy Barber said.
Florida, seemingly the most popular summer destination, is known for its warm weather and beaches. However, Florida offers more than just beaches, as it features many popular cities such as Tampa, Miami, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale. Each city provides a variety of unique activities.
With the amount of days left in the school year numbered, summer vacation allows for a well-deserved break. Whether you are exploring Europe, tanning at a beach, or staying local, enjoy the opportunity to unwind, and make the most of the time off.
