UConn women's basketball point guard Paige Bueckers was reportedly stalked and harassed by a man from Oregon who posted on social media intending to marry her.
Robert Cole Parmalee of Grants Pass, Oregon, 40, appeared in a Connecticut courthouse in Rockville on September 16 on charges of breach of peace, electronic stalking, and harassment as a result of his arrest on September 13.
Parmelee posted on tik tok and sent emails to UConn that included threats and infatuation towards Bueckers.
Parmelee was arrested with an engagement ring and lingerie in his possession walking on a highway near Bradley International Airport. Police state that Parmalee was on his way to see Bueckers after flying from the Pacific Northwest.
Parmalee was also charged with an arrest warrant in Oregon for setting fire to a house with children and pets inside. On Monday September 16th
Parmalee had posted photos, videos, and comments towards Bueckers on many social media platforms and had sent numerous emails to UConn's officials since June.
“I think it is pretty scary because she is just doing what she loves playing basketball and there are creepy people trying to stalk her and follow her and then nobody should be doing that because she is just doing what she loves” NHS student Kieran Garrity said.
This a pretty big deal to the people that live Connecticut and love the University and when a Well-known athlete from school goes through this type of trauma it causes attention.
These posts included many statements on marrying Bueckers and trying to get her expelled. When these videos were sent out Parmalee referred to the Bueckers as V1 or Victum1 in these posts. One of these post stated,
"And if I cannot live with a woman of my choosing, then I will choose to die, and I will choose to take all of you that [op]pose me, oppose us, to hell, and return, king..." Parmalee posted about Buckers.
“My opinion on this almost professional athlete and someone to look up to and I feel like the younger generation sees that maybe they don’t wanna see that and maybe Paige won't be able to perform on the court and she won't perform as well.” NHS student JT Walsh said.
This Situation is very scary for all female athletes and Paige Bueckers really showed her strength throughout his whole process and paved the way for all female athletes.
Bueckers never responded to these messages and after seeing all these alarming messages Bueckers contacted UConn police because she was scared for herself, friends, teammates and family who lived around the area.
“Parmalee has shown a continual, escalating behavior and directed effort to make electronic postings about V1 and threats against those close with V1 which has caused emotional distress over the past two weeks for V1,” UConn police said.
Police went deeper in investigating these posts from Parmalee and found him buying flowers for V1 and finding her mother’s house. In Another tik tok before he arrived to Connecticut,
“I’m coming to UConn Paige Madison Bueckers, I’ll be in Hartford tomorrow morning,” Parmalee said
This post also showed Parmalee with his tickets and boarding pass. Parmalee was also contacting University of Southern California and Louisiana State University officials and sports agents, according to police. After these protective and no-contact orders were issued for Bueckers and if Parmalee makes bail he will be issued to intense pretrial supervision is GPS monitoring. Parmalee will be facing many charges and his next court date is October 22nd at Connecticut Supreme court in the town of Rockville.
