Things are starting to wrap up for the senior class of 2025. After four years at the high school it's time for the seniors (whether teachers like it or not) to relax a little.
Spring break is right around the corner which will likely include lots of relaxation for those who have made their decisions already, and more college visits for those still deciding their plans for next year.
Senior prom is scheduled for May 9th this year and will be at the Waterview in Monroe. Alongside the senior prom, the seniors are also treated to the dinner dance on May 22nd, as well as the senior trip to six flags the following Thursday on the 29th.
The board of education also recently approved the plans for graduation and announced that the 2025 graduation ceremony will be on Thursday, June 12th at 5 pm at Blue and Gold Stadium.
Senior assassins another favorite senior activity also started early April with seniors participating in teams of two. The activity is a contest to see which duo can last the longest without being “assassinated” by another senior with a water gun. Senior assassins this year is run by seniors Makena Gibbons and Sofi Lapierre. The contest is always a hit among seniors and makes the senior spring that much more of a blast for the graduating class.
With these exciting events and deadlines coming up I decided to interview a couple seniors to get their opinions on the end of the year and their plans for next year.
“I will be attending Columbia University and wrestling there, I will most likely be studying finance. I’m going to be at most of the senior events and my senior assassins partner is Lillian Caico. I'm excited to get high school over and done with, but I still want to enjoy the last quarter to the fullest and I look forward to it. My favorite memory here at NHS was engineering class with Mr. Nicholson” NHS senior Marc Maurath said.
Another future finance major going to school in New York Grayson Renkert,
“I’m going to Syracuse this fall to major in finance, you’ll see me at prom and other senior events and look forward to winning senior assassins with my best bud Eric Bogorsky. My favorite memory at NHS has to be going on the Connecticut state Latin day field trip every year with Mrs. Kimberly in Latin class” NHS senior Grayson Renkert said.
Lots of NHS seniors are going to be Huskies in the fall,
“I am pretty committed to the University of Connecticut, after touring I think I will really enjoy my time there and I know a couple of people going there already so it would be nice to room with someone I know. I’ll be at prom, and I plan to win senior assassins with Aadit Jerfy. My favorite memory was announcing the senior league final and getting to announce the game tying buzzer beater, it was electric” NHS senior Edward Liu said.
Another Husky, Keira Maddox,
“I’ll be at Uconn in the fall studying marine sciences. I’ll try to be at all the senior events and my partner for senior assassins is Tatum Patty. My favorite memory from NHS was oceanography with Mr. Harrison” NHS senior Keira Maddox said.
Some seniors are still making final decisions,
“At this moment I’m still deciding but wherever I go I will be studying economics on a pre-law track. I’m excited for all the senior events and will be participating in as many as I can. There’s a lot of good memories to pick from but if I had to choose one it would be playing senior league in the winter” NHS senior Nate Crone said.
Another senior still deciding,
“I plan on going to college after high school, I’m not committed yet and i know a lot of people are waiting on certain schools, I’m going to prom in May and doing senior assassins with Bennet Quinn, I think it’s going to be a fun way to end the year. I would say my favorite memory from high school is just getting to meet up with all my friends every day during lunch and having that time together” NHS senior Emily Braun said.
Other seniors are heading down south,
“My plan for the fall is to go to college at Auburn University in Alabama studying business. I will most definitely be at all the senior events and my senior assassins partner is Martin Dunn. I have had many great memories here but the best one was captaining the swim team with all of my best buds” NHS senior John Barzetti said.
Scholarship and awards night is also coming up on 28th where seniors and underclassmen will be accepting their scholarships and awards for their hard work this year.
For seniors taking AP exams, AP week begins May 5th going all the way through to the 16th. If you are participating in AP week, happy studying, good luck, and get those 5s!
