The Playoffs

Updated: Dec 10

This NFL season has been one to remember. Multiple teams have surprised us with their successes, while others have failed to meet their expectations. The AFC is led by the Kansas City Chiefs (11-1), closely followed by the Buffalo Bills (10-2), the Pittsburgh Steelers in 3rd (9-3), and the Houston Texans (8-5).

Other teams in the playoff hunt include the Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, and Denver Broncos. The NFC is led by the Detroit Lions (12-1), followed by the Philadelphia Eagles (10-2). Because the Seattle Seahawks (7-5) and the Atlanta Falcons (6-6) lead their respective divisions, they sit at the 3rd and 4th seed.

Other NFL teams in the playoff hunt include the Minnesota Vikings (10-2), Green Bay Packers, and the Washington Commanders. The only team that has clinched a win in their division is the Buffalo Bills, who clinched the AFC East after a win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Kansas City Chiefs had been 9-0 this season, looking like they were going to stay undefeated. That was until Josh Allen stepped in. The Buffalo Bills defeated the Chiefs Sunday, 18/11/24. The Bills were determined to defeat their rivals, and end their winning streak.

The Chiefs don’t seem to have that easy path to being Super Bowl Champs as they thought. Not only are the Bills a major threat, but some other teams have been proving themselves to be contenders.

The Detroit Lions, who are 10-1 currently, have been looking like a threat. Quarterback Jared Goff is currently ranked twelveth in the league for his position. Despite some mistakes and a large amount of picks in his recent games, he is overall a solid Quarterback.

At the Wide Receiver position Detroit has Amon-Ra St. Brown, who is ranked as second for his position and has nine touchdowns this season. As a Running Back the Lions have Jahmyr Gibbs, who is ranked sixth. He has ten touchdowns this season. The Lions have possibly the most prolific offense in the league this season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, led by Quarterback Russell Wilson have a good defense. They can do some serious damage on the offensive as well.

“Russell Wilson and Arthur Smith have transformed this offense, making the Steelers a serious contending team,” NHS sophomore Nate Staron said.

Wide Receiver George Pickens has been a fan favorite of the Steelers, and other teams as well. His on field antics can be backed up by his poster worthy catches. Making fools of the defense.

“The pure athleticism displayed by George Pickens this season has helped the Steelers tremendously on their journey to their 8-3 record, and now being a serious contender in the AFC,” NHS sophomore Oliver Martins said.

Running Back Najee Harris leaves the defense in the dust as well. Linebacker TJ Watt has had 104 career sacks, seven career interceptions and 319 solo tackles. A generational defender, just like his brother JJ Watt, who was the best player in Houston Texans history.

Another contending team is the Minnesota Vikings. Sam Darnold finding Wide Receiver Justin Jefferson has led them to a 9-2 record this season. Then there are the Philadelphia Eagles. Jalen Hurts is ranked as the third best Quarterback in the league. Wide Receiver AJ Brown is talented as well as Saquon Barkley, who is ranked as the best Running Back in the league.

The playoff Picture is really starting to come together. There are some underdog teams, such as the Packers and the Commanders. The Green Bay Packers, led by Jordan Love now have a 9-3 record. The offense is spearheaded by Running Back Josh Jacobs, and Wide Receiver Jayden Reed.

“The Packers have been pretty surprising this season and good things are to come for them,” NHS Counselor Mr. Tolson said.

The Washington  Commanders have a 8-5 record. Rookie Quarterback Jayden Daniels is ranked fifth in the league. Wide Receiver Terry Mclaurin has nine touchdowns this season. Running Back Brian Robinson Jr. has eight touchdowns and is ranked as eighth in the league.

The competitiveness of the league has been revving up recently. The Super Bowl could be anybody’s game.
