Valentine's Day Gift Guide

As Valentine's Day approaches, many are in search of the perfect gift. Although the go-to options are always a classic, there are many original gift options that offer joy for that special someone.

Gifts such as chocolate, flowers, and teddy bears come to mind when many think of the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. These have been the Valentine’s Day classics for years, but homemade gifts tend to offer a more personalized touch. When choosing your loved one’s gift, there are several original ideas to consider this season.

One idea is to write personalized messages on a brown piece of paper. Then, using that paper, wrap the stems of a bouquet of flowers. This customized bouquet adds a touch of personalization to the generic Valentine’s Day flowers. It also offers the opportunity to tell the receiver everything you appreciate about them.

“I think personalized gifts are always a good option because it shows that you really know the person,” NHS senior Abigail DaRocha said.

DaRocha feels that Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to let a significant other know all the things that you admire about them, and a personalized gift is the best way to do so.

Along with the paper wrapped bouquet of flowers, dipping flowers into glitter has become a fan favorite on social media. These special bouquets can be personalized by choosing a certain type and color of glitter to use. There are endless color combinations and variations to this sparkly bouquet.

“I saw this TikTok of a guy dipping red roses into glitter for his girlfriend and it was so pretty. It’s kind of become popular now, but I still think it would make a cute Valentine’s Day gift,” NHS junior Elizabeth Macey said.

Macey feels that flowers are always a great gift idea for any occasion, but can become basic over time. This distinct bouquet offers a variety of flowers that are not seen everyday.

Amazon has been a go-to for many when it comes to purchasing gifts. Top Valentine's Day gifts on Amazon include personalized blankets and picture frames, movie night popcorn gift sets, and candles.

“Amazon has some good gift options and they’re normally pretty cheap too,” NHS sophomore Ella Romano said.

Amazon tends to offer a large variety of unique Valentine’s Day gifts for affordable prices.                                                                                                                                                              Another unique gift to consider is to write things that you love about the receiver on heart shaped pieces of paper and place them in a Valentine’s Day themed mason jar. Holiday spirit can be added by placing pink and red ribbon around the lid of the jar, and adding heart shaped stickers to the sides. This gift will not only leave your loved one feeling incredibly appreciated, but can also make for an aesthetically pleasing room decor.

“If I were to receive a Valentine’s Day gift I would rather get something that lasts forever, instead of just like candy or food,” NHS sophomore Elle Mussen said.

Mussen believes that receiving gifts that can last, makes for a great way to look back and remember how thoughtful the gift was.

While some may prefer long lasting gifts, others believe that food and candy can be a great way to express your love to a special someone.

I’m a real foody. I love baked goods, salads, soups, basically comfort foods. Food is my love language and is easy to customize to people’s likings,” NHS librarian Liza Zandonella said.

Zandonella believes that food makes for an easy way to personalize gifts and can even be more authentic than other options.

Although receiving a tangible gift can make for an excellent Valentine’s Day, many would rather spend quality time with their loved one to celebrate.

“I’m a bit nerdy so I would love to just spend time with my boyfriend at the library instead of receiving any actual gifts,” NHS senior Ivyi Hampton said.

Ivy feels that many people are very busy and spending quality time with a partner can be challenging, so Valentine's Day is a great time to reconnect.

Homemade gifts tend to provide more heartfelt, meaningful options, while also being lower in cost. These unique, personalized Valentine’s Day gifts are sure to leave your loved one with cherishable happiness from the heart.
