Former LSU top wide receiver Kyren Lacy died in a apparent suicide in his own car after being chased by police officers.
The Houston County police said the pursuit of Lacy ended when he crashed and as they moved close to extract Lacy from the vehicle they saw what they believed to be a suicide. Lacy, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lacy struggled with legal issues for many months due to his alleged involvement in the killing of a 78 year old man in a reckless driving accident.
It is believed that Lacy has too much legal trouble and it was just too much on him and he couldn't take it anymore. Lacy faced up to ten years in prison.
“It’s really a terrible thing. I mean he was so fun to watch at LSU and he could dance like no other when he scored, it's just sad because he could have been really good I believe,” NHS sophomore Graham Spencer said. Seeing his dream be pushed back is believed the reason why Lacy committed suicide.
“We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU football student-athlete Kyren Lacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing,” LSU said
Lacy declared for the NFL Draft that happened this past April but his stock kept falling because of his problems off the field. Lacy was projected to be a late 1st round pick, or early second round pick.
Lacy led the LSU in touchdowns this past college football season and was also a very prominent social media star. Lacy posted many tik toks in the locker doing dances that he would also do in the end zone. Lacy had 124.4 thousand tik tok followers with over 600 thousand likes on his videos.
“I wish he went to the Giants, I mean him and Nabers were good friends and the chem would have been unmatched. I hope for the best with his family and everything,” NHS Senior Jack Glassman said.
This year in college football Lacy took advantage of being a number 1 wide receiver and improved his draft stock. Lacy’s junior season he was overshadowed by first round draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. These two were very good friends with Lacy.
"I regret leaving school, because I know, had I been there or we been there, it would have changed, like, that's, that's probably me, and I'm not gonna say for 5 (Jayden Daniels), but I'm saying it's probably my biggest regret is just not taking him with us when we left to the draft,” Nabers said.
Lacy has a lot of teammates reach out to the lacy family to really show what Lacy meant to all of his teammates at LSU. All of his family members were distraught and it was hard for anyone to comprehend.
"Our lives have changed forever and this will never be ok, but God needed my baby more than he needed here. This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through." Father Kenny Lacy said.
It is an overall terrible scene in sports and the real world. Rest in peace Kyren Lacy.
