Brandon Moore Candidate

Brandon Moore is the Democratic candidate running for state representative of District 106. District 106 is a majority of Newtown except for a portion of I84. In the Connecticut State House, the state representative's job is to draft and vote on legislation and represent Newtown in the legislature up in Hartford.

“I was born and raised in Connecticut, my parents were also born and raised in Connecticut. I have deep family roots here at home in Connecticut,” Moore said. “I was the first in my family to go to college, I went to West Point. I was nominated by Connecticut senator Joe Lieberman and representative John Larson in the first district. I represented Connecticut at West Point, and it was an incredible four-year experience, to any of the high school students that are considering any of the service academies.”

Moore left West Point as an aviation officer. Moore flew the Apache attack helicopter, which is one of the three main helicopters the Army uses. In 2017 to 2018, Moore was deployed to Korea. While he was commander, he was also deployed to Afghanistan.

“It really changed my perspective. As someone who was 11 years old in 9-11, I remember it vividly and I thought our biggest problems were overseas. Having served overseas under Donald Trump, I actually started to believe that some of our biggest problems were actually here at home, and that we needed to do a better job,” Moore said.

Moore believes in the process of electing officials who uphold values that we can be proud of as Americans. He wanted to get involved in state government, and he worked under Ned Lamont. While in this position he helped roll out a portal that helped people who are unemployed to re-enter the workforce and who need help with transportation, housing, apprenticeships, and or education.

“I’m running because I know we can do so much better. We have so much to be proud of with who we have serving as our governor and lieutenant governor in Connecticut,” Moore said. “I’m going to do everything that I can to represent the values of Newtown when I go to Hartford instead of representing the far right wing of the Republican party.”

Moore believes in the importance of getting the youth involved. Students and kids can bring in fresh perspectives on continuous issues and ideas. Youth involvement fosters lifelong civic habits, and ensures policies reflect the needs of this generation, and ones to come.

“Everyone has vested interest in these elections. Everyone has skin in the game. Everyone does,” Moore said.

He also emphasizes the importance of campaigns and the power of talking to your neighbors and people in your town about issues that matter to everyone individually.

“Everybody can be involved in the process, you don’t even need to be old enough to vote. Freshman and sophomore students at Newtown High School can be involved in the campaign process, you can volunteer. Young people are absolute rockstars at bringing the energy,” Moore said.

Moore has participated in debates around Newtown recently. One was hosted by the College Democrats of Connecticut, which included college students coming up to Newtown to try and support the Democratic process. Students who are 18 and able to vote as a registered democrat can participate in a Democratic caucus at Newtown Middle School at 6 pm.

“This is an awesome way for first time voters, folks that are in High School and registered to vote as a Democrat, to show up and participate. You’re going to hear from both me and my primary opponent at this event. This will be an opportunity for them to hear candidates and to make up their mind in person, having heard these folks make their pitch themselves,” Moore said.
