As Donald Trump had been elected to be the 46th President of the United States, he began to make his Cabinet picks throughout November. The cabinet picks have to be nominated as quickly as possible after the presidential results are released, and many must be confirmed by the Senate.
The White House Chief of Staff Trump selected is Susie Wiles, a co-chair of Trump’s campaign. The Presidential Personnel Office head nominee is Sergio Gor, an entrepreneur from Florida. The White House Press Secretary is slated to be Karoline Leavitt, an American political aide.
The Director of National Intelligence Nominee is Tulsi Gabbard, a military officer. The CIA director will be John Ratcliffe, a lawyer and politician. The “Border Czar,” which allows the president the ability to ignore checks and balances of the three branches of government, the nominee is Tom Homan.
“Republicans remain confident and optimistic about President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks despite controversies,” The Minnesota Daily said in an article on the Cabinet selections.
Matt Gaetz was the Attorney General nominee but Gaetz has withdrawn and Trump has selected Pam Bondi, former Florida Attorney General. The Deputy Attorney General selected was Todd Blanche, a former federal prosecutor. The defense secretary nominee is Pete Hegseth, a military veteran and Fox News host. Many of these nominees have sparked some controversy, and both parties are voicing concern.
“I am grateful I know the names ahead of time, so that we can find out more about each person and air our grievances. For example, the uproar about the worst pick of all, Matt Gaetz, at least forced Trump to ask him to step down from consideration,” another anonymous source said.
The Secretary of State nominee is Marco Rubio, a senator for Florida. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs nominated is Doug Collins, a retired politician and lawyer. The national security adviser selected by Trump is Michael Waltz, a veteran and former Pentagon adviser. The Health and Human Services secretary nominee is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was also a candidate for the 2024 presidential election. These nominees selected so quickly haveter the election has caused some fluctuation in opinions and it is a bit unusual, but people say there are many reasons for this.
“The general public is not usually interested in Cabinet picks. This started with the last Trump term as people tried to use them to further discredit him. Now it seems people want to know and by releasing the picks early he is telling the American people that he wants to start on Day 1. It can take 6 months or more to get Cabinet Departments filled and that is a lot of wasted time. If he is going to work on Government Efficiency (DOGE), then this is the appropriate way to show the people he practices what he preaches,” Newtown High School history teacher Candi Dietter said.
The U.N. Ambassador nominee is Elise Stefanik, a New York congressional representative. The interior secretary selected was Doug Burgum, the governor of North Dakota. The secretary of energy nominee is Chris Wright, the CEO of Liberty Energy. The Secretary of Transportation selected was Sean Duffy, a reality TV host and prosecutor.
The White House counsel nominated is Dean John Sauer, an American lawyer. The Secretary of Homeland Security nominee is South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem. The EPA administrator selected is Lee Zeldin, an attorney and officer in the United States Army Reserve.
“Trump has moved at a rapid pace to shape his upcoming administration, which stands in contrast to his first run at the presidency in 2016,” Fox News said.
The FCC chairman nominated is Brendan Carr, the commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission. The U.S. ambassador to Israel nominated is Mike Huckabee, an American Baptist minister. The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York selected is Jay Clayton, an attorney and a retired Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The Department of Government Efficiency members selected are Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, a business CEO and company founder. This list of names includes some well-known figures and some who are not in the public eye.
“So, I think he has chosen a much more diverse Cabinet than people expected him to. Those chosen are younger, newer people in politics, but have been in their fields for a while. He did choose "Trump loyalists," which is to be expected, since members of his last Cabinet did not stand by him. I think he is going to give these people directives and he is going to try to get things done for the American people, as he promised.” Dietter said.
