School Fashion Trends

Fashion today can look very different from style years ago. In high school, trends can reflect people around you and social media plays an especially large role. Influencers on tiktok that express their own style, possibly catch the eye of students everywhere. 

As stated, 61% of TikTok users report discovering new brands and products on the platform, highlighting its power as a discovery tool. Whether it be clothing, or other items tiktok can also be used as fashion inspiration. 

Clothing trends circle all around high school. The weather also allows for different types of clothing. Connecticut has reached the “ber” months and it has recently become very cold. Students are dressing in warmer clothes. It all depends on what people prefer to wear, as well as common fashion.

“Currently, students wear shoes like Uggs, Adidas, and On clouds. Clothing wise sweatshirts and sweatpants are common because they are comfortable. Jeans are also worn because they are stylish,”  NHS sophomore Eshal Jarrar said. 

In terms of fashion, social media can be very persuasive and allows a wide range of trends. Tiktok, an extremely popular platform, contains videos with OOTD’s ( Outfit of the day). These videos have become heavily popular today. 

"I follow fashion trends very frequently due to the media's influences because it provides fun outfit ideas,” NHS sophomore Mya Clavijo said. 

The popularity of these trends ultimately are seen with many students. It’s only a matter of time before a new trend consumes people. However, there are many styles people choose to wear including, basic, y2k, streetwear, sporty, casual, and comfy. 

“I think the most common clothing I've seen is definitely a lot of jeans and sweaters. I think this is because of social media and people branching out from leggings and sweatpants. People are now choosing their own style,’’ NHS sophomore Kaylin Pimentel said. 

Especially during the fall weather, jeans and sweaters can be a stylish option. It also can show that people are normalizing this style of clothing. When things are normalized, people have an easier time participating in it. The more popular the trend, the more people tend to notice.

However, clothes can be expensive and trends can be hard to follow. When coming across clothes you like on tiktok and learning how much they cost, it can make it hard to buy. “As long as you know how to style and wear the clothes with confidence, that’s all that matters, " NHS sophomore Olivia Rodriguez said.   

When buying clothes, certain brands and retail stores can catch someone's eye. Brands usually attempt to follow the latest fashion trends. There are many different brands that have what people are looking for. Hollister, H&M, Lululemon, Zara, and many others can possibly have what people are looking for. Whether its looking for jeans, sweatshirt, sweatpants, or sweaters, certain brands apply to different clothing pieces.  

“The first brand I like is called subdude. It is a unique Italian base brand that provides classy pieces for teenage girls and it has more of a contemporary trending style. My other favorite brand is Brandy Melville and it became popular in the United States over its comforting fabric and delightful appearance,” NHS sophomore Gretchen Sullivan said.
